Recognising British Fashion: Menswear Fashion Week and the Queen Honors Sarah Burton

Earlier this year, TFS focused on the launch of the Great campaign that has been taking in place in the UK to promote Britain as a destination to study, visit, and invest. The campaign is currently turning its attentions to the London Collections: Men (LCM) and it’s a fab way to draw attention to and also celebrate the menswear design talent which is prevalent within the UK.

Alexa Chung Fronts The Great Campaign

Its promotional photo shoot took place in the legendary tailors’ district Savile Row in London. As well as featuring a handful of Savile Row’s top apprentice tailors, a little bit of that showbiz sparkle was injected into the shoot in the form of fashion icon Alexa Chung, and eye candy male model David Gandy.

LCM’s Participants

In essence, LCM is a fashion week for menswear, and it not only allows established and up-and-coming menswear designers to showcase their designs, but it’s also a great opportunity for the usual London Fashion Week womenswear designers to showcase the menswear sides of their businesses.  Established designers such as Jonathan Saunders, Christopher Kane, and Meadham Kirchhoff are all seizing this golden opportunity along with 51 other designers over three days.

Sarah Burton’s OBE

It seems that it’s not only Menswear fashion which is being officially celebrated this week, but also the work of designer Sarah Burton. It's the Queen’s birthday and each year she compiles a personal list of whom she’d like to bestow with the title of OBE (Order of the British Empire). People who receive an OBE are those who are being recognised for their hard work within their fields, and of course, who can forget the amazing wedding dress which Sarah created as part of the Alexander McQueen label for the Duchess of Cambridge. Well done Sarah, you truly deserve the honor!
