WWD described Mulberry’s Fall 2012 ad campaign as “a cross between the Muppets and Grimm’s Fairy Tales, but we’re going to call it like we see it and say it looks heavily inspired by the furry creatures in the late Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are. Model Lindsey Wixson was decked out in various Mulberry looks (and is notably shown carrying the Del Rey, Maisie, and newly embellished Alexa bags) and photographed by Tim Walker alongside two giant furry beasts in Blackheath Forest in Surrey, England.
Forum members found the ad concept to be charming and original. “It’s probably the funniest campaign I’ve seen,” laughed Zephons.
“I absolutely love it,” wrote Nepenthes. “Lindsey and Tim are the perfect combination for Mulberry.”
KINGofVERSAILLES piled on the accolades. “This is one of my favorite campaigns ever,” he declared. “That might sound extreme, but the combination of whimsy and childhood fantasy with the beautiful photography and Lindsey giving it her all, it's just stunning to look at. Most ads are really quite dull and you pass them in a magazine or on a billboard and you don't take notice. No one will not notice these. Really, I can't express how brilliant and gorgeous this is. And they're not trying too hard, either. It's just perfect for the brand.”
The campaign will debut in The New York Times on June 24, and will also appear in the August issues of Vogue in the U.S. and the U.K. If you pick up any of those magazines you won’t be able to “not notice” the Mulberry ads.
