Nicole Pollard Channels a Masculine Maturity for Friend of Mine

Nicole Pollard is fast becoming a hot favourite for local fashion labels, and here she is again baring those insanely good gams for rising Melbourne brand Friend of Mine. Designers Teale Talbot and Letitia McLean chose not to show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia in May but have just released the campaign for their Spring/Summer 2012 collection ‘Ladies Don’t Lean on Lampposts’, a homage to Helmut Newton’s strong and dramatically styled ladies of the 1960s and 70s.

The Brisbane teenager channels Newton’s iconic models impeccably in a leather-trimmed blazer and shirts so white they could induce blindness. Friend of Mine have always put a sizeable focus on flesh with cropped and closely tailored pieces, and this season they’ve continued in that vein while investing the collection with a Le Smoking masculinity. The colour palette is in keeping with that influence too, with muted hues proving black and white has never been intrinsically boring.

In the more feminine pieces, asymmetrical cuts sweep their way from sexy to downright risqué, and the 0.1% of ladies with legs like Pollards (just FYI, the girl is 6’1”) should already have put in a pre-order for that super-sheer maxi. Elsewhere, more masculine shapes allow the wearer to channel strong 70s sex appeal in a more subtle way, and strappy patent harnesses will take your outfit from Lady Who Lunches to straight-up Man Eater.
