With Memorial Day Weekend behind us, summer is officially in full swing. Here's a look at some of the latest and greatest beauty essentials to pack in your beach bag this season.
Karanja Tree Sunshield SPF 30, $48
Part of Molton Brown’s newly launched skincare range, this lightweight UVA/UVB-protecting cream has a smooth, matte finish and is formulated with karanja tree seed oil and pongamia extract, both of which are known to be rich in active UVA/UVB absorbers to help inhibit environmental skin-aging free radicals.
Bum Lift, $69
It may not provide long term results potent enough to replace regular butt firming exercises, but for an instant tightening feel (truly, your backside will feel smoother and tighter immediately after applying this gel), it’s impossible to beat Bum Lift. The key ingredient in the product is pomegranate ellagic tannin, which has been shown to boost collagen production and firm/tone skin.
Venus and Olay Razor, $8.99
Hands down, the best drugstore razor I’ve ever used. This five-blade razor is not only made with Olay moisture bars to help prevent dryness, but you don’t need to use shaving cream with it; just wet the razor and a light lather is released.
PREVAGE Triple Defense Shield SPF 50 Sunscreen, $79
Reliable sunscreens aren’t as easy to come by as many think (hence the FDA getting involved). This new one from Elizabeth Arden not only has the scientific data and studies to back up its effectiveness, but the formulation comes in a unique, specially designed tube with its own built-in brush. The brush applicator was specifically created to ensure more even coverage – just click open, squeeze, and apply (this is especially useful when applying the product on your own as it makes hard-to-reach areas more readily accessible).
Beach Fragrance, $67.50
This scent could easily have smelled cheap (and there are countless heavy-on-coconut beach-themed scents that do), but it doesn’t. In fact, not only does the mix of jasmine, sea spray, and mandarin smell exactly like a beach, it’s completely transporting. The perfect alternative to heavy musk-based scents more suitable for cold weather.
Clear Days Ahead Acne Trial Kit, $38 ($67 value)
A new addiction to working out in 105-plus degrees has confirmed what I already knew – sweating is a surefire way to breakout. Philosophy’s newest collection will effectively fight breakouts (I’m hoping they come out with some complementary body products) and unlike most other salicylic acid-based products, these don’t smell bad or feel like they’re zapping your skin’s moisture, though if you use all four of the products, expect some dryness for a few weeks.
Volumizing Dry Shampoo, $35
A must-have for travel because of its no-mess brush applicator, this dry shampoo is perfect for getting rid of grease and sweat when you don’t have time to shower.
Grape Seed Anti-Cellulite Massage Oil, $19
While it may not rid you of all your fat pockets, this soothing massage oil will alleviate sore muscles, boost circulation, and leave your legs feeling refreshed enough to tackle just about any wave.
Sun Kiss, $41
This hydrator is formulated with an eco-certified self-tanning agent that adds color to skin while boosting hydration. It’s also designed to help prolong the life of your existing tan and has a cooling sensation thanks to aloe vera.
Glacial Cleansing Cloths, $15
Touch up beach-tarnished makeup and swipe away dirt, oil, and other grime with these residue-free, non-drying clothes. They’re made with a slew of active ingredients including ones to fight inflammation, dryness, and irritation.
Japanese Blotting Papers, $12
Fragrance free and all natural these leaflets, made from 100% abaca leaf – known for its absorbency and softness – will help absorb excess oil.
Tonic Moisture Mist, $28
Fashion insiders swear by this mist when it comes to rehydrating skin after a long flight. It’s made with hyaluronic acid, ginseng, and fig extract, and is designed to both tone and revitalize. It's perfect post-beach for an energy boost or pre-makeup to calm skin.
Oil-Free Makeup Eraser Sticks, $5.49
Easily remove makeup with minimal (if any) greasy residue thanks to these portable sticks. They’re particularly great for hard-to-reach areas like under your bottom lashes.
Translucent Bronze Concentrate, $39.95
This concentrate is designed to be blended with any facial moisturizer, body moisturizer, or sunscreen for a faux sun-kissed glow. Ideal for all skin types, you can add as little or as much concentrate to customize your tan.
