Rainy Day Tresses

So with Spring under way the rain is kind of unavoidable. As frustrating as it is to look outside and see sheets of water pouring down from above there are simple things you can do to keep your hair in check until the sun comes back out to play. When it rains the air becomes humid and icky which can cause mega unruliness to your head of hair... which we all know can turn even the most tamed locks into a mane of mess. But don't fear, because after reading this even the most torrential downpour won't ruin your favorite hairstyle.

When it rains there are usually two things that happen to your hair; either it gets super flat from being outside, or it poufs up into a giant ball of frizz. Analyze your hair and then choose the right direction to go in.

If your hair falls flat then you have it a little bit easier than others. There are so many things you can do with your hair that will make it look just as stunning as usual. I really like braiding my hair when it gets flat. A nice french braid or side braid usually do the trick. They are strong enough that the wind won't mess them up and wound tight enough that when you eventually take them out you'll have a nice natural looking wave to your tresses.

Not really down with the braids? How about a nice headband? Try pulling your hair up into a simple high ponytail and wrap a headband around it. This way no one will be able to see the fly aways and everyone will be envious at how effortlessly put together you look.

If you're the other kind of girl, the kind whose hair puffs up and gets crazy volume, then you have some really cool options to do to your tresses. My favorite is the messy top knot. It's super easy to do, it looks amazing, and if it gets wet then no big problem, it STILL looks good. All you have to do it make a high ponytail on the crown of your head and secure it with an elastic, then wrap the rest of it around and secure those strands with either bobby pins or a second elastic. It's simple and it takes two seconds to throw up. You can also spice this one up by adding a bandanna around it or a some cute clips. It's really up to you and your personal style.

You can always throw on a hat, but be forewarned... chances are if it's humid out and you wear a hat you're going to get serious hat hair... unless you opt for a nice loose fitting one. A loose hat are not only super comfortable but if your hair is really unruly you can just put all your hair inside and no one will even know.

You can take some preventative measures before the rain comes to help keep your hair looking it's best at all times by using a leave in conditioner, treating it with an anti-frizz spray, finger dry your hair over using a blow dryer. All these things will greatly decrease your chances of having a completely horrible hair day next time the rain comes down.
