Wedding hairstyles for spring 2014

LONDON: Ladies, be a tad different and try a unique hairstyle to look extra-special on your wedding day. Why not go for a Bohemian look or add in some accessories, suggests celebrity hairstylist Asgar Saboo.

Boho down-do to Root Lift are the few styles that brides can choose from:

Boho down-do: Your wedding does not have to be on a beach in Mexico for you to be able to pull off the Boho-look. Loose, effortless waves or waterfall twists can look beautiful whatever the style of your wedding. If you would rather not have all of your hair down, you can strategically place pins in your hair to hold the top layer up, creating a half-up, half-down look. Not only does this ensure your hair stays out of your face for the day, but the additional layer makes for an enchanting hair style.

Accessorise: If you opt not to wear a wedding veil, but would still like a little something extra in your hair, there are countless, beautiful accessories and hair pieces that can be worn. These include embroidered and net head wraps, feathered clips for a vintage feel, a traditional and demure birdcage, a large statement flower or a floral headband. The options are endless and most are suitable to wear with hair both up and down.

Short and Sophisticated: For brides with cropped, pixie-style hair, do very little. This is because cropped dos are a statement style in themselves and need very little else as they look bold enough on their own. However, if you want to add a little something, use a simple accessory, such as a floral headband.

Root Lift: Nothing spells grandiose and glamour like high hair. The root lift balances out the fluidity of the gown and can look sophisticated and stylish. This style can be easily achieved using a root-lifting product and massaging into the roots of wet hair, followed by blow drying hair in the correct technique (upwards and away from the root). For fine, limp hair, try some light back combing, being careful not to be too harsh on the hair.

Classic up-do: Classic up-dos can range from a chique chignon to an elegant ballerina bun. They are both incredibly simple to create and perfect to accompany any dress neckline. While the chignon is more whimsical and quirky, the ballerina bun exhibits class and poise. If you wish to choose the ballerina bun, place it as high on the crown of your head as possible, as this provides additional grandeur to your look - after all, you are the bride!

3 New Ways to Wear Braids Now (and Look Like a Fall 2014 Runway Model)

At this point in the winter ( for the love of God, will it ever end????), your repertoire of hat-friendly hairstyle ideas has probably gotten a bit stale. Or maybe your repertoire consists of just "ponytail" (guilty). That's why I want to share a few new braids we've seen on the fall 2014 Fashion Week runways-while you may not see a cute shoe again until spring, these hairstyles can be worn right away. AND stand up to that hat!

1. The half-back fishtail braid, seen at Etro.

If you haven't worn your hair half-back lately, this is such a chic new way to revisit the concept. Watch the video at the end of this post for a seriously easy/quick tutorial on how to do a fishtail braid!

2. Pigtails with a headband, seen at Marc by Marc Jacobs.

I know, grown-up pigtails can be a dodgy proposition, but it's winter-what better time to play around with something slightly risky, since you have your hat on half the time anyway? I love how adding a black headband (plus that dark eyeliner!) made the Marc by Marc models suddenly look edgy and cool. Note how the hair's gently parted in the middle, to keep the hairline from looking harsh.

3. A loose and undone low braid, seen at Pucci.

Hair worn down in the winter can be so flat, but this is an easy fix; braid just the ends for an undone, bohemian kind of vibe. Pretty, right? Which of these fall 2014 Fashion Week braid hairstyle ideas is your favorite? Have any of you been wearing braids this winter, and if so, what type? Photos: Mark Leibowitz

The 6 Best '70s Hairstyles to Quell Your American Hustle Fever

As we brace ourselves for the Oscars on Sunday, there's one film we consider to be a cut above the rest and that's American Hustle. Full disclosure: Our love for the '70s makes us completely biased, but we've fallen in love with the film, from the groovy soundtrack to its coining of the term "science oven." And then there's our obsession with the costumes and makeup - particularly the pivotal hair motif.

We pined for Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) and her magical perm curls, as well as Rosalyn Rosenfeld ( Jennifer Lawrence) and her hair piled on top of her head like some kind Long Island Brigitte Bardot. We even appreciated Richard "Richie" DiMaso ( Bradley Cooper) and his prowess for hand-rolling tiny mini-curls. We were less enamored with Irving Rosenfeld's ( Christian Bale) toupée, but it was a triumph nonetheless.

Since we already have a wealth of '70s-inspired clothing in our closet, we thought the best way we could pay further homage to the film was with our tresses. Here, you'll find the 5 hairstyles we believe best encompass the era, as well as a few of the characters who made them famous. 1. The Foxy Fro

If you're a whole lotta woman. 2.The Farrah Fawcett

Full-on Farrah

3. Modern Farrah

"Modern Farrah Fawcett inspired hair is all about the flick in the front, not about flicks all over as she wore it in the '70s. The rest of the hair can almost do whatever it wants," explains hairstylist Sam McKnight.

4. The Felicity Shagwell

It's lost on us how there isn't a single Felicity Shagwell hair how-to on the internetz (it's giving us ideas), but essentially it comes down to some Lana Del Rey-esque teasing and a twisted, braided poof. See below:

5. The Bo Derek:

RESPECT if you're bold enough to take on this look, but unless you're some kind of cornrow wizard, we suggest leaving it to the professionals. If stubborn, see below:

6. The Petra Collins

Collins may be a millenial, but she has the '70s look down. We don't see her as the kind of girl who sets her hair every morning and considering that she's a fan of au natural hair, this might be a case of painfully envy-inducing good hair genes. Still, it's nothing you can't emulate with rollers and hair fluffing.

Jerry Hall chops off her locks after having the same hairstyle for 40 years

Model Jerry Hall has ditched her famous long, blonde waves for a new shorter look.

Hall, who has had the same hairstyle for 40 years, broke the news of her new haircut to fans via Twitter on Wednesday.

#Surprise !! .. I have cut off my long locks and got the short "Lob" haircut. Thanks to the @lorealpro team! http://ift.tt/1gJUw52 - Jerry Hall (@JerryHall_) February 19, 2014

Hall's Twitter followers were quick to approve of the shorter hairstyle, saying it looked "beautiful", "gorgeous", and that it makes her look years younger.

The 57-year-old supermodel apparently decided to cut her hair on an impulse at a hair makeover photo shoot.

French actress and model Loan Chabanol also had a restyle at the L'Oreal shoot, and posted a photo on Instagram of herself and "the legendary Jerry Hall" showing off their new looks.

Hall has said in the past that all the girls in her family - including her mother - were mad about glamour; "I styled myself on Veronica Lake and Marlene Dietrich."

Bye-bye Veronica Lake, and hello to what could become the haircut of the season.

House of Holland AW14: Get the hairstyle

Inspired by the character Emily Lloyd from 'Wish you were here', the hair look created for the Autumn/Winter 14 collection for House of Holland was coined 'Monkey Wind'.

The look was reminiscent of the years of adolescence, worn-in-texture, oily roots and a carefree attitude.

Percy & Reed create the hair look using BaByliss Pro waving wand to elongate the texture and give a loose wind to the hair.

A deep square parting was created and the hair pulled across the forehead and clipped behind the ear, allowing the cheeky 'monkey ear' to pop out. A small side lock of hair was left to hang loosely at the front of the ear.

Percy & Reed then used a texturising spray which was worked into the hair to give it texture, whilst a shine cream was applied to the roots for an oily, adolescent look.

Eva Longoria's super straight hairstyle reflects her serious mood as runs ...

By Helen Zhao

PUBLISHED: 21:11 EST, 18 February 2014 | UPDATED: 04:28 EST, 19 February 2014

Eva Longoria is really embracing her new poker straight hair and bangs; and on Tuesday it seemed to have taken a grip of her bubbly personality.

The 38-year-old actress has taken a flat iron to her naturally wavy hair, highlighted such that it was much lighter at the ends, and shielded her eyes with aviator sunglasses.

The Desperate Housewives star left the salon in flip flops to prevent her new dark red nail colour from smearing, as she gazed intently at her phone.

The footwear contrasted with the rest of her outfit, as she channelled business chic in a dark fitted blazer and matching trousers, teamed with a casual white top.

He is president of Televisa, the world's largest Spanish-speaking media conglomerate with interests in TV, radio, publishing and the Internet.

The romance comes on the heels of her ex-husband Tony Parker's announcement in October that he and fiancé Axelle Francine are expecting a baby boy.

However, she isn't feeling any pressure.

'I'm not one of those women who are like, "I must procreate!"' she added. 'I think kids are a product of love. So if you find the right person and you want to have a family with that person, then that's when the time is right.

'But... if I'm 50 and single, I'm not going to go do it myself.'

Katy Perry Shows Off New Hairstyle

Katy Perry used to play with her hair color a lot more back in her early days of being a pop star, but for the last few years, she's pretty much had the same hairstyle.

Don't get us wrong, it actually looks really good on her and we couldn't imagine her as, say, a blonde...but we always like it when celebs mix things up a little.

Finally, Katy threw us a bone in the form of some brand new bangs, which she showed off at the Elle Style Awards in London, where she also won "Woman of the Year," you know, nbd.

The singer also gave us a glimpse of her new 'do before the awards where she shared a photo of herself cuddling up to Jiff the Pomeranian (he's totally famous in the dog world), but her hair was kind of smashed up against his fur and it was hard to really see the style.

Anyway, it was on full display-- along with a possible engagement ring?!--at the Elle Style awards and we're torn because we can't decide if the bangs make her look younger or if the bob makes her look more mature. You can't look more mature AND younger at the same time...can you?

What do you guys think?

PHOTOS Katy Perry's new hairstyle is reminiscent of Old Hollywood

Hair chameleon Katy Perry changed up her 'do yet again with some blunt bangs and wavy bob. She publicly debuted the look during last night's ELLE Style Awards.

Katy complemented her classic hairstyle with a similarly vintage-inspired dress from Vivienne Westwood's Gold Label Capsule Collection. Later in the night, Katy was honored as Elle's Woman of the Year.

Although Katy's look is pretty bold, all eyes remained on her left ring finger - which was wrapped with a could-be engagement band. But, as many of us know, Katy simply likes to wear jewelry on her left ring finger. Multiple sources confirmed to Katy and beau John Mayer are not engaged. Still, it seems like just a matter of time before that ring takes on a new significance.

"Everyone knows it's just a question of when John will propose," a source previously told Us Weekly. "[They] realize they must be together."

Lazy Girl's Guide To Winter Hair Care: 5 Hairstyles To Try

When waking up to negative temperatures and windy mornings, it's easy to resign yourself to bare-minimum routine of washing your hair then quickly throwing it up into a bun. But not only can rocking a wet, messy chignon grow tiresome pretty quickly, hair requires special tending to this time of year to prevent damage from the harsh climate. "With our Canadian winter, it's the most important time of the year to treat your hair with nourishing oils and conditioning treatments," says Roch Lemay, Matrix lead educator. We asked Lemay to share his expert hair care on how to easily style and treat hair throughout the winter, and keep it healthy-looking all year.

Click through the gallery to check out Lemay's tips for easy winter styles anyone can do. Lazy Girl Winter Hairstyles: Short Haircut If you have been searching for a reason (and the courage) to chop off your hair, winter is the perfect season to test out a short haircut. "A shag style is easy to maintain under a touque," explains Lemay. Go for a short, deconstructed pixie or a textured bob-both looks are easy to style and will keep their shape. "And any hat-head will only improve the messy look!"

Before styling, use a hair oil or serum to strengthen the hair and set with a thermal-protectant spray to seal from any drastic change in temperature (both frigid lows and intense indoor heating) and protect against frizz and static. When blow drying the hair, use a slow and lower heat setting. "That's the ideal temperature to keep your frizz down and your style up," he says.

Lazy Girl Winter Hairstyles: Straight Hair For women with curly hair, now is your chance to play around with your hair texture without fear of summer heat and humidity undoing all your work once you step outside. "Cold winter is a great opportunity for curly hair to be styled straight, as the cool weather will ensure there will be no humidity to ruin a great hair day," says Lemay.

Lazy Girl Winter Hairstyles: A Playful Chignon Whether you're doing a wash-and-go updo or a more polished nighttime equivalent, a loosely swept-up bun can be the perfect romantic look this winter. Before styling, prep hair with Matrix Biolage Agave Nectar Control Gel to protect against flyaways and finger-dry the hair freely. "Continue your style by loosely braiding your pony tail where desired," says Lemay. "Then twist around itself and secure with pins."

Lazy Girl Winter Hairstyles: Hat Hair For a day spent outdoors or when it's totally justified to wear a knitted hat all day, go for an easy yet chic hairstyle underneath. "Both tight or textured braids are a fun, playful style combination with a touque," says Lemay. Plus pulling your hair back into braids will keep it off your face when hitting the slopes. Apply a lightweight mousse to towel-dried hair to add texture and keep the braid in place all day.

Lazy Girl Winter Hairstyles: Wavy Hair While summer has claimed the beach wave as its signature hairstyle, loose, textured curls work as a year-round look. "Beginning at the nape, twist one to two-inch sections of your hair around your finger and leave to set. When dry, break apart with fingers or diffuse with a blow dryer for a sexy, controlled wave," says Lemay. Since there's less humidity in the air this time of year, there's less chance of having to battle a halo of frizz around your curls.

And it can't hurt to conjure up the beachy origins of these natural waves on minus-40-degree day. "This will give you a bohemian style reminding you of summer, yet keeping your heart warm," says Lemay.

Katy Perry's Bob With Bangs—Are You a Fan of the Singer's New Hairstyle?

While 's new ring may have been the hot topic over the weekend, the singer's new 'do also warrants a bit of discussion.

It appears the pop star's new bangs-which she debuted shortly after the Grammy's are here to stay. The fringe is now paired with a bob haircut that ends just above her shoulders.

Perry first showed off the haircut on Instagram and soon after she was spotted sporting the new hairstyle on a Valentine's Day with her maybe-fiance . PHOTOS: Katy & John's romance rewind

The cute crop is similar to the bob Katy had when the twosome made their debut as a couple back in August 2012. Of course, the duo-who broke up and got back together since then-have progressed quite a bit since those first dates.

While it's still unconfirmed whether or not the pair may even be headed down the aisle soon, we do know they had a romantic holiday last Friday. "They are really happy. They had the most amazing date night. They had a private booth at Bootsy Bellows and were very happy just to be together," a source tells E! News. "They were taking pics of one another and are head over heels. After a while, they had some friends join them and they spent the rest of the night dancing. They left as the club was closing."

No doubt Mayer is a fan or her new haircut-but are you? PHOTOS: More celebs with the bob RELATED VIDEOS:

Vanessa Paradis' Curly Hairstyle—Get A Better Look At Her New 'Do

Tony Barson/FilmMagic

One month ago we reported that Vanessa Paradis had undergone a dramatic tress transformation: cutting off her long locks into a curly almost-pixie hairstyle. Well, now we're getting a closer look at her new 'do.

Johnny Depp's ex love of 14 years attended Victoires de la Musique in Paris on Friday in an ultra chic Alexandre Vauthier gown but it was her hairstyle that kept heads turning. Now, her short brunette ringlets reached just under her ears and appeared to have golden highlights throughout. The actress-clearly loving her new look-was beaming as she took to the stage to accept her award for Artiste Interprete Feminine. NEWS: First look: Vanessa Paradis chops off her hair

The new haircut is believed to be created by the 41-year-olds pal and hairstylist John Nollet, which Paradis was snapped grabbing lunch with in Los Angeles the same day she debuted her fresh crop.

Vanessa Paradis Unveils New 'Abba' Hairstyle At 'Victoires De La Musique'

Vanessa Paradis, the well known French singer and model, has a new hairstyle and it's very very retro! As well as her role as Chanel spokesperson Paradis is also best remembered by most as Jonny Depp's partner of 14 years, who she shares two children with.

When Paradis first unveiled her radical new hairstyle she wore in down with a light wave running through. On Friday though, at the 29th Victoires de la Musique annual ceremony in Paris, Vanessa Paradis graciously accepted her award with her hair curly and some noted, very similar to an Abba haircut.

There is criticism here at all, according to most Paradis looked classy and elegant at the awards ceremony sporting a black sleeveless halterneck dress and looking very similar in appearance to Frida Lyngstad from Abba.

As she made her way to stage to accept her award for 'Artiste Interprete Feminine', in English 'Female Artist of the Year', it was clear that her new 70′s style hairstyle was going to steal the show.

The gold earrings and a peppering of black eye shadow complimented the new Vanessa Paradis look perfectly and watching her was almost like going 35 years back in time. After proudly accepting the reward Paradis went on to perform at the event singing her new song La Chanson des Vieux Cons.

Even though Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis never formally married they were together for nearly 15 years and have two children, 14-year-old Lily-Rose and 11-year-old Jack. Following their split in 2012 Depp is now engaged to Amber Heard.

what do you think of Vanessa Paradis' new look? Do you think she resembles Frida Lyngstad from Abba? Share your thoughts on the matter in the comments feed provided below.
