Look of the Day: Jaime Kings Brocade Stella McCartney Ensemble

Jaime King CBS Showtime CW Summer 2012 Press Tour Beverly Hills

Who: Jaime King

Where: CBS, The CW, and Showtime 2012 Summer TCA Party Beverly Hills, California

Why we like it: Jaime’s dynamic blue and black brocade ensemble from Stella McCartney’s Fall 2012 collection was a daring pick for a summer event. Kate Spade was behind her accessories, which included a pair of black strappy sandals and a matching clutch.

Donna Karan and Kelly Ripa Host Super Saturday Garage Sale in the Hamptons

Not even thunder and heavy rain could stop the crowds from shopping for a cause at Saturday’s annual Super Saturday event in Southampton. While the celebrity attendance may have been slightly thinner than in years past due to the inclement weather, the event, which was started 15 years ago by Donna Karan and has been dubbed “the Rolls Royce of garage sales,” raised a whopping $3.6 million for Ovarian Cancer Research Fund – surpassing the impressive $3.5 million that was raised last year.

While it’s normally an outdoor affair, the over 200 designers who donated their wares, to be sold at discounted prices with all proceeds going to charity, set up shop underneath one of the most massive tents I’ve ever seen. Donna Karan, Theory, alice + olivia, J Brand, Diane von Furstenberg, Helmut Lang, Intermix, Scoop NYC, Splendid, Smythson, and Ralph Lauren were just a few of the notable draws. Joining local Hamptonites were Kelly Ripa, Mark Feuerstein, Lara Spencer, Star Jones, Tiffani Thiessen, Beth Ostrosky Stern, George Kotsiopoulos, Isaac Mizrahi, Jonathan Cheban, Kyle Richards, Veronica Webb, Hilary Rhoda, and Jessica Hart, among others.

J. Brand and Ralph Lauren were the most notable draws, along with gratis psychic readings and makeup touch-ups and while many lamented the absence of Dyson this year, scant was the shopper without a handful of shopping bags.

Adrienne Bailon and Julissa Bermudez are the Empire Girls: Closed Set with Julie Bensman

Kim and Kris who? If you, like my reality show-loving roommate, just haven't been the same since Rob Kardashian and Adrienne Bailon broke up, The Style Network’s Empire Girls certainly helps ease the pain.

Baillon is back, this time joined by best friend Julissa Bermudez, for a show chronicling the ladies' luck with boys, jobs, and the city that doesn't sleep. Between Baillon's Cheetah Girls days and the on-air flair Julissa sports on 106 & Park, it's no surprise these ladies are dressed to the nines throughout each and every episode.

Julie Bensman: Congrats on the show’s success! Give us the scoop...

Julissa Bermudez: The show is something we thought would be a breath of fresh air in an oversaturated market like Reality TV. We like to think of ourselves (as Adrienne likes to say) as 'Feel Good TV' because we're not afraid to be silly, crazy, emotional, etc.

Adrienne Bailon: Juli and I have been best friends for almost ten years now and have gone through SO much together — from career ups and downs to old and new boyfriends (or currently lack thereof!). We call ourselves the Latina Laverne & Shirley...crazy and hilarious things are always happening in our lives. For a while, the ongoing joke was, 'Where are the cameras?!'

JB: What do you love about filming in NYC?

AB: It's home! There is NOTHING like coming home. So many memories...

JB: ...and the infectious energy! The vibe is contagious. Plus, they do say if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere (fingers crossed). We're definitely in an Empire State of mind.

JB: How do you think your heritage plays into your sense of style?

JB: I think my style is a little more vibrant and sassy because of my upbringing. I was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Queens, so my Caribbean influence along with my urban Queens setting adds a unique flair to my style.

AB: I love being Latina and I love being feminine... I love feeling sexy! I refer to my style as Cha-Cha Queen.

JB: How would you describe each other’s style?

AB: Juli is bohemian/classic chic!
She loves effortless pieces yet always looks like a classic timeless beauty.

JB: Adrienne is tough girl, edgy with a chic twist. I love that she's unpredictable — she'll rock something that most wouldn't even think of putting together and make it work in a cool, funky way.

JB: Who are some of your own favorite designers?

AB: Alexander Wang, McQueen, and Zac Posen...and anything from Topshop!

JB: I love classic designers like my DR native Oscar de la Renta, Versace, and Dolce & Gabbana because they fit women with curves amazingly. I also love Carven, Opening Ceremony, and Balmain (if money were no object!).

JB: What/who inspires you?

JB: Strong independent women like Oprah, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Ripa, and Tyra Banks.

AB: LIFE! The good and the bad... My mood and feelings inspire me...getting dressed is always a reflection of how I feel!

Check out Empire Girls on The Style Network, Sundays at 9-10 PM EST.

Xoxo,

Julie

Karl Lagerfeld Continues to Spoil Choupette Rotten

Karl LagerfeldLook, it's really easy to lose perspective when you have a cat. No one ever thinks they're going to turn into that crazy cat lady, but the second you adopt a kitten your entire moral order shifts and your sense of restraint goes flying out the window. The next thing you know, you're changing your Facebook profile picture, telling stories about Fluffy on first dates, evaluating someone's boyfriend potential based on how well they interact with your cat, hiring three personal maids devoted to your kitten's care and well-being, bringing your cat into the cockpit with you whenever you jet to St. Tropez. It gets really intense!

And so ever since Karl Lagerfeld was gifted a furry little furball named Choupette, journalists have not stopped asking about the new pet, and the Kaiser's answers have been getting progressively more insane. First we heard that Choupette had just two dedicated personal maids, but in an interview with The Independant which went online today, Karl suggested he'd hired on an additional pair of hands. The Chanel designer needs all the help he can get caring for his cat, because after all, Choupette's delicate animal body needs to be examined by a vet once every ten days: "I don't take her. I don't want her to be furious with me."

Instead, Karl just pampers his feline friend, permitting her to sit in the cockpit with the pilot when they fly to St. Tropez because "she loves looking at the sky." Choupette is quite enamored with her generous owner, obviously: "Choupette waits for me at the front door," he says. "She doesn't like being alone. She gets moody." With three personal maids, I don't understand how Karl's little princess ever has a second to herself. Like any emerging "it" girl, Choupette is being fishbowled, and it's only a matter of time before she caves under the pressure, starts acting out, and lands in the tabloids.

North Islanders Set to Dominate New Zealand Fashion Week 2012

The preliminary schedule has been announced for New Zealand Fashion Week, which will take place over seven days from September 3, 2012.

Over 40 designers are so far confirmed to show their Autumn/Winter 2013 to buyers, press, and guests this year at Auckland’s Viaduct Events Centre. All but one hail from across the ditch (2012’s event also gets the privilege of welcoming Australian designer Charlie Brown, who was confirmed last month), and the majority of those are brands based in the North Island — Dunedin’s Company of Strangers is alone in representing the South Island.

However NZFW managing director Pieter Stewart insists the ever-changing lineup of designers is one of the event’s draw cards, and this year certainly isn’t lacking in talent. Local fashion linchpins Huffer, Juliette Hogan, Zambesi, and Trelise Cooper will be staging guaranteed hot-ticket shows, while rising stars Ruby, Stolen Girlfriends Club, and Twenty-Seven Names invest the event with that edgy innovation that defines much Kiwi design. There will also be plenty of emerging local labels given the chance to make roads into lucrative overseas markets, much of them doing so via the exciting New Generation group show.

Sartorial powerhouses absent from the preliminary list include World, Karen Walker, and Nom D, who will likely be skipping NZFW for the second year in a row.

New Zealand Fashion Week 2012 designer announcement:

Go for the Gold: Summer's Most Coveted Golden Fashion Choices

The 2012 Olympics inspire more than just a sense of national pride, healthy competition, and athletic camaraderie, there is also an overwhelming need for nabbing the most prized possession: the gold. If you thought I was talking about the iconic medal all these contenders are vying for, then think again. We're all about gold style. To begin your gilded summer, start by reviewing the hottest fashion picks, designer inspirations, and shopping tips—all done in the most coveted metal.

  • Mulberry Gold Sportswear

Spice up your sportswear by donning gold threads like the separates seen at the Spring 2012 Mulberry collection. Luxury casual wear at its best, gold pieces add glamour to any ensemble by adding a chic element that feels modern and fresh rather than flashy. Wear an all gold sporty outfit for maximum impact or pair with neutrals for a sophisticated combination.

  • Temperley London's Heel Accent

Look for accessories with gilded accents and hardware to subtly dress up your look. At Temperley London's Spring 2012 collection, evening-centric looks were paired with black shoes that were decorated with metallic gold heels. Great for dressing up any outfit, golden accents add a regal quality to almost any ensemble. To keep your accessories looking luxe rather than cheap, make sure that there is an even contrast between the flash and the neutral by choosing solid classic hues.

  • Oscar de la Renta's Gold Bijoux

Pair your summer whites with gold statement jewelry like the ones seen at the Spring 2012 Oscar de la Renta collection for a luxe pairing that is feminine and elegant. The textured architectural design adds a modern element that contrasts beautifully with the vintage gold metal for an artsy combination. Practical and classic, textured gold pieces work in both casual and dressier settings.

  • Tory Burch's Oversized Baubles

Sport oversized glittering gold gems on your lobes for a fancy night out. Costume jewelry, as seen during the Tory Burch Spring 2012 collection, is the perfect accessory for a glitzy and glamorous night out. Meant to dress up a casual frock and embolden a cocktail dress, golden gems feel sexy, feminine, and confident, especially during the summer. Put your hair up to add even more focus to your golden ears, while avoiding any other flashy accessory.

  • Balmain's Exuberant Bling

Add a snazzy jacket over your casual gear for a bad girl/glamorous 'tude that will do so much more than just catch everyone's eye. To keep your look from going into Baroque overkill territory, or even worse, the semblance of a 1980s music video remake, make sure to pair your flashy golden separate over a super casual outfit like slouchy chambray shorts and a luxe cashmere sweatshirt a la Balmain's Spring 2012 RTW collection.

Shop the Celebrity Trend: The Essential Floppy Sun Hat

Dermatologists agree that wide-brimmed hats are a great way to shield yourself from the sun’s aging rays—and now, thanks to celebs like Alek Wek, Rachel Zoe, and Vanessa Hudgens, we can all agree that sun hats are the most stylish way to stay sun-safe.

Stylista Zoe was seen out and about in Malibu wearing a floppy straw hat with a thin leather band, and model Wek stepped on the red carpet at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in a black and white woven sun hat. Headgear in of-the-moment straw and raffia will lend any outfit an instantly beachy feel. Hudgens went for a more bohemian vibe at Coachella, wearing a Lovely Bird felt hat with a feather sash. Wear your sun hat with a flowing maxi dress for a 70s-inspired look, or look chic poolside (or streetside) by pairing a floppy straw hat with a LWD. Shop the trend with our pick of sun hats for any budget, including Hudgens’ exact hat:

1. Phoebe Floppy Feather Hat - $90;  2. San Diego Hat Company Floppy Straw Sun Hat - $48.99;  3. Eric Javitz Striped Grosgrain Robbin Floppy Hat - $125;  4. Forever 21 Sashed Floppy Hat – $14.90;  5. Lovely Bird Biarritz Felt Floppy Hat - $129

Your FACE Deserves a Medal: Win Big with Olympic-Inspired Gold, Bronze, and Silver Makeup

The chances of you winning a medal in the Olympics are overwhelmingly slim — unless you're a world class athlete, in which case, carry on —  but that doesn't mean you can't celebrate the Olympics in style. Metallic makeup is hardly novel, but with the Olympic spirit sweeping the globe, celebrate in your own way with these medal-inspired shades.

Gold
If you're in London, you'll know that the chances of us having a sunny games period are slim to none, but that doesn't mean you can't warm up your makeup with a shimmering gold statement look. If you're really going for it, these Twisted Space False Eyelashes by Shu Uemura, £27, are a bold, eye-cathcing look but if you're looking for a more subtle gold look for your eyes, opt for Lush's New Emotional Brilliance Eyeliner in Fantasy, £14.50. If you want just a hint of gold, try applying the liner thickly across the upper lash line with a big flick, then going over it with a black liner so just a hint of gold shows at the top. While gold lipstick might be a bit too far, even for us, this Ultra Shine Lip Lacquer Gold Dust by Tom Ford, £25, will give a golden glow on bare lips or act as a shimmery top coat over a nude lipstick. If that's still too much for you, get the gilded look with this amazing Gold Leaf Lacquer by Rococo, £35. Use it as a plain top coat once the gold has settled to the bottom or shake it up and apply the leaf on its own or over your favourite polish.

Silver
Silver's probably the hardest of the medal shades to pull off, but with careful blending, you can work with the cool silver tones. Starting from the tips of your toes and fingers, you can get the sterling look with the super sparkly Nails Inc Diamond Arcade Nail Jewellery, £11. This jewel-effect top coat looks striking over any dark or bright polish — try layering it over another silver for an extra sparkly look. For a subtle, yet striking, glittery eye, try Urban Decay's Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Glam Rock, £13. Use it on its own for a great daytime look or with a smoky eye for night. If you want to go all out, try the highly pigmented Liquid Metal in Phenomena by Illamasqua, £17.50. Use this cream as a shadow on its own or blended with other colours for a statement eye.

Bronze

This is by far the easiest 'medal' shade to pull off, but even if the sun isn't shining any more, you can still rock the bronze goddess look. Channel your inner Grecian goddess with a multi-use product such as NARS' The Multiple in Laguna, £29. Apply it as a normal bronzer but try bringing it down onto your décolleté for an extra glow. Bronze smoky eyes have been all over the red carpets for the past few months so get your own version with Laura Mercier's Metallic Creme Eye Colour in Burnished Copper, £18.50. For a glittery bronzed cheek, try Bobbi Brown's Bestselling Shimmer Brick in Bronze Shimmer, £32. Target the colour with a smaller blush brush, use it for a bronzed eyeshadow look, or use a large fluffy brush and apply it wherever you please.

8 Fall Beauty Trends to Try Right Now

From textured tresses to bold lips, there were plenty of covetable beauty trends walking the Fall 2012 runways that are not only right for cooler weather, but perfectly appropriate for summer. Here are 8 looks worth the instant gratification.

  • Textured Tresses at Rag & Bone

Rag & Bone's Fall 2012 show was inspired by a multitude of rich textures, including  floral tapestries, fur trims, and luxurious black leather pieces. In addition to the sumptuous fabrics, hair also took on a textured wave that felt sexily disheveled and fashionably grungy. Because summer is all about lighter and less doing, work in less product, whether mousse or spray, than you would usually use to achieve the summer version of this 'do. Try Bumble and Bumble's Surf Spray $15 for beachy waves, volume, and plenty of texture.

  • Statement Brows at Vera Wang

If Fall 2012 is anything to go by, strong brows are not going anywhere—at least anytime soon. However, make sure that your enhanced brows look groomed rather than bushy. At Vera Wang's Fall 2012 show, models showed off strong statement brows that gave off a dramatic effect. To achieve this look now, make your eyebrow the focal point by extending the brow out to the temple, following the natural direction of the brow. Keep the look natural as opposed to costumey by keeping the rest of your face bare. Use Sephora's Arch it Brow Kit $35, which includes all the utensil you need to maintain well groomed eyebrows.

  • Bold Lips at Marc by Marc Jacobs

While Fall 2012 was the moment for eyes to take center stage, a few designers looked to enhance lips instead. At Marc by Marc Jacobs, models showed off classic red pouts that showed off a sophisticated no-nonsense type of gal. Make sure to focus on your lips by keeping the rest of your skin bare. It's key to keep in mind that what you leave out is just as important as what you put on. For bold lips, try Nars Lipstick in Jungle Red $24, a semi-matte bright red that looks good on just about everyone.

  • Graphic Lids at Jason Wu

If your evening makeup routine is all about the eyes, Jason Wu's Fall 2012 show is your go-to inspiration board. Inspired by the Chinese army, models showcased graphic emerald lids, a look that's meant to look tough and warrior like. To get graphic lids for the summer, tone down the black liner and instead line your lids with gray eyeliner, which creates a softer shape. Keep the emerald shadow at bay by focusing on the lower lid rather than the whole eye area. For easy use try Make Up For Ever Aqua Shadow in Matte Green $20, an idiot-proof shadow pencil that provides immediate color without smudging, budging, or worst of all, fading.

  • Stick Straight Hair at Victoria Beckham

Super-straight and sleek hair will be all the rage if Fall 2012 collections like Victoria Beckham, DKNY, and Betsey Johnson are anything to go by. Because pin-straight hair feels sophisticated, groomed, and is very manageable, it's a practical style to wear, whether you're going to work or spending the weekend at the Hamptons. To get the look, make sure to iron your hair after blow drying. Try T3 Single Pass Compact Iron $79, which uses Tourmaline-infused ceramic plates to seal the hair cuticle and eliminate frizz.

  • Peachy All Over at Peter Som

For his Fall 2012 collection, Peter Som's girls showed off peachy complexions that radiated a healthy and happy glow. Keeping the colors in the same range, lips, eyes and cheeks complemented rather than overwhelmed each other. For summer, try a cream base or a stain that goes on lighter and that you can also apply on your lids as well as your mouth. Try NARS The Multiple in Orgasm $39, a shimmery peachy pink multi-purpose stick that will look great for the summer, be it day or night.

  • Glowing Skin at Oscar de la Renta

At the Fall 2012 Oscar de la Renta show, the makeup used on the models complemented and highlighted both the strengths and sophistication of the modern woman. To get the look, you want to focus on your face as a whole by attaining glowing, healthy looking skin that doesn't look tired, stressed, or any of the actual states woman are in most of the year. To cheat yourself to that elegant glow, apply the right amount of highlighter under and over your eyes, on the bridge of your nose, and on the sides of your mouth. This glow is the perfect to-go makeup everyone should master during the summer as it is easy, looks effortless, and shows up flawlessly. Use Yves Saint Laurent Touch Eclat $40, a luminous pen that achieves radiant skin with just a couple of strokes.

  • Fun Hairpins at Tory Burch

Statement Hair Accessories took center stage during the Fall 2012 collections. From metallic studded stars at Rodarte to acrylic flower pins at Tory Burch, soft, poofy hairstyles were adorned with ornate clips. To get in on this sweet trend now, skip the fluffy updos, and instead place these fun pins all over your waves or throughout a loose braid. Search for fun clips at luxe hair accessory maven, Jennifer Behr, or at Topshop for great prices.
