How to Look Like the Mad Men

Mad Men is about to start it's new season and the anticipation is killing me. This drama set in the 1960's has been all the rage since it's come out and doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Which is fine with me. There's something about this show that grabs you and pulls you in. It must be the hair....

Men. You need to take a page out of Don Drapers book and learn a little something about style. Don Draper is the perfect man (apart from all the cheating) Clean cut, gentlemanly and tidy hair. It's really easy to recreate his look and it won't cost you a massive amount of money either.

We'll start by talking about the wardrobe. We're not expecting you to wear 3 piece suits everyday... that would be a little bit over the top unless you work in an office. If you have a nice button down and feel comfortable wearing it then go for it! If you're on the other side of this debate then try putting a modern twist on it and throw on a nice tight fitting white tshirt. Throw a blazer on over top to create the look we're going for and we're set.

You can wear jeans, as long as they don't have holes in them... that's not very classy, but a nice pair of pants would really tie you together with a simple belt.

The best part is really the hair though. How to get the hair:

First you're going to need to make a quick trip to the barber. Get the sides around your ears and back of the head cut shorter than the top. Ask him to leave it very full and longer in the front. Your barber will know what to do. Don't try and direct him too much unless you've had this cut before. He knows what he's doing and has probably given this haircut a million times in his life, especially if you're going to an older barber.

Once your hair has been cut pop over the the pharmacy and pick yourself up some pomade and a nice hairspray or gel. When you get out of the shower, towel dry your hair until it's damp and then apply the pomade. Comb your hair back and keep applying pomade until you get the desired effect. Then lightly mist it with hairspray to make sure you don't have any fly aways.

VoilĂ ! That's really all you need to look like you're one of the big boys in Mad Men.
