Schwarzkopf Professionals New Chignon

For the third season in a row, Schwarzkopf Professional is pleased to sponsor Canadian designer Lucian Matis's runway collection and lead the hairstyling team backstage. This year's show was held at the legendary Royal York Hotel Ballroom and once again was one of the most anticipated shows of the season. Paul Pereira, of Solo Bace Salon, was the lead hairstylist backstage and worked closely with Lucian Matis to create a look that would compliment this season's collection.

"Many of Lucian's pieces included lace or feathers – lots of great texture – so we wanted to incorporate this with the hair. We took the classic chignon that is very trendy this season and added some edginess to it with braiding for texture," says Pereira. He also integrated the centre part that is another of this season's hair trends.

To create this look, Pereira and his team followed these steps:

1. Start by creating a centre part at the front of the head. Once you reach the crown, section the hair into a triangle formation all along the back.

2. Apply OSiS AquaSlide to the triangle sectioned hair to add shine and sleekness and begin making the first braid, then the second and finally the third.

3. Apply OSiS Dust It to the front section of the hair to give it some volume and lift. A slicked down centre part can be very severe and not wearable by most.

4. Apply OSiS Elastic to the mid to ends of the hair and brush out so that hair is workable to create a loose ponytail or chignon. The finish is up to you. Chignons are very hot this season, but ponytails can be easier to create for some.

5. Finish the style with OSiS Session spray to keep everything in place.

"There can be several variations to this hairstyle to take it from the runway to everyday," says Pereira. "You can simply crimp the triangle section at the back or curl it to give it the distinct texture we're aiming for. You can simply make one braid instead of three or move the braid to the side of the head instead of the back. What's important is to have this hairstyle stand out from the average chignon or low ponytail."
