We have the talented and creative Allan Ngo in our spotlight this Thursday. This world renown hairstylist is nothing short of fantastic. Styling hair for over 28 years, this is a man with experience in and out of the salon and performing every kind of cut you can imagine. Read on for our exclusive interview with the talented Ngo!
1. How many years have you been a stylist? I've been a stylist for over 28 years.
2. Why did you choose this profession? This profession inspires be to become something so truly amazing. I have the passion, the motive and creative eyes to create something that is so unique and exquisite.
3. Did you go to school to become a stylist or are you self-taught? I have gone to many different schools to further educate myself to become a better person each and everyday. I focus and train myself to be a few steps ahead of others.
4. Where do you draw inspiration for your work? Everything around me has given me inspiration to create different looks.
5. What is the funniest thing that has happened to you while cutting someone else's hair? I sneezed and slipped up!
6. What is your favourite part of being a stylist? My favorite part would have to be where i create my signature techniques. I love to do color and cut A-Line Bobs. In every color application I try to put in a little something extra to make the hair color stand out a little different. With my A-Line Bobs, I combined a couple techniques that I've learned from numerous stylists to create something special.
7. What is a product you're addicted to at the moment? There are a few products in mind that I love to use. A few preps for the hair I love is the Tonic Lotion from Bumble&Bumble, Daily Hair Repair from Aveda, Glossing Straightener also from Aveda and lastly the Thickening Spray from Bumble&Bumble.
8. If you could style anyone's hair in the world, who would it be? I would love to do Lady Gaga's hair. Her display of art truly inspires me to create something out of the ordinary.
9. What is the most difficult part about your profession? Unappreciative customers who do not understand how hard a person could possibly work to make someone else happy to their best abilities.
10. What hairstyle is "in" this season? Why? The Bob is back in this season. Everyone loves the new Rihanna look.
11. Do you have any advice for men and women who colour their hair? Those who have colored hair should have the proper knowledge to maintain and upkeep the color.
12. What is the biggest problem you see with hair today? Not everyone has proper knowledge to maintain hair. How to make it shiny and to keep it healthy looking.
13. What is your favourite style to work with? I love to do color. Creating and mixing different styles.
14. What is the worst thing you can do to your hair? Nothing. I believe that everything that is created, is a work of art.
15. What is the best thing you can do to keep your hair looking healthy and beautiful? Regular haircuts and proper upkeep with hair care
16. What is the most popular style you perform on a day to day basis? A-line Bob.
17. What are some products that you use regularly? Damage Remedy Daily Repair- Great for very damage hair+heat protection. Bumble&Bumble Tonic Lotion-nourish hair. Bumble&Bumble Thickening Spray-Helps thickens hair with heat protection.
18. For women who can't afford big budget hair care, are there any products that you can buy from the store that you could recommend? The Aveda Line is a more exclusive line but is a little bit cheaper than others. I truly love this line just because it is an all natural line that caters to every types of hair.
19. What has been your favourite era in hair styling? I don't really have a favorite era. Every era is inspiring.
20. Do you have any tips to prevent/overcome bad hair days? Always use heat protection on your hair before blowdrying your hair. Always blowdry and style your hair!
