Here's a GIF of Prince's Hairstyles Throughout the Years





Prince has become a music icon through his long history of making classic songs and pretty much destroying every stage he's ever touch with his boundless abilities as a performer and instrumentalist.

Now, a new rundown of the Purple One's perpetually evolving looks from 1978 through today reveals his status as a genuine hair icon as well, captured in this lovingly rendered look back at Prince's many, many coifs. The poster was created by artist Gary Card for

The cavalcade of hairstyles (36 in all) becomes even more entrancing when laid out in GIF form (), creating a hypnotic blur of bangs, blow-outs and Afros, such as his current look that coincides with the Plectrum Electrum campaign and seen on Prince's recent appearance on FOX TV show, New Girl.

The enigmatic artist used the New Girl appearance (which followed Super Bowl XLVIII) to debut the song, "PretzelBodyLogic," the first single from Plectrum Electrum. That same evening, he held an impromptu listening party at New York hotspot The Darby, where he was joined by current backing band, 3RDEYEGIRL, and revealed another new song, "FunkNRoll."
