Carlie Cushnie and Michelle Ochs took a minimalist approach to naming their design house. Simple, chic, and straight to the point, the name of the label gives you an idea of their design aesthetic. In addition, it can best be described as modern, hip, edgy, and a little bit all-American sportswear mixed with a rock star vibe. The duo hit the fashion scene in 2008 upon graduating from Parsons and haven't had to look back since. Right off the bat they impressed Linda Fargo, the woman behind Bergdorf Goodman's fashion offerings. She has the power to catapult a career in the world of high fashion largely by her decision to carry an up-and-comer's work. In 2009, the Cushnie et Ochs collection was bought up entirely by Fargo.
But Bergdorf cred isn't the only thing to recommend them, they're CFDA nominees and winners of the Ecco Domani fashion fund award. Their biggest claim to fame to date is designing a dress for Michelle Obama after the First Lady's style team reached out to them requesting an exclusive look. Cushnie et Ochs collections are a go-to for young women who aren't afraid of their own sex appeal and revel in showing off their femininity. Sensuality rules the day in every collection. Girls who take pride in their figure (whether svelte or curvy) should be paying attention.
But don't get the wrong idea. Just because these two women have made a name for themselves in the cutthroat world of fashion, doesn't mean they've given up the provincial habits that us mere mortals are prone to. Here's one of our favorite insider tidbits: Michelle has to eat McDonald's before every show and says it's the only thing to calm her stomach. Even when she's not hungry on the big day, she's been known to superstitiously down a cheeseburger and nuggets. Ahh...to be young. Still only in their late twenties, the duo certainly is on the rise and we can't wait to see more of what they have to offer. Here are some of our favorite looks so far, you be the judge.
