Designer Paul Smith is a London Fashion Week regular who aims to dress the individualistic rather than somebody who merely wants to be associated with a brand. This season saw his first ever livestreamed show, which took place at the prestigious Central Saint Martins building, London. A location which was a little out of the way compared to all of the week’s other fashion shows, but a typical trait of the man who likes to add to the experience and showcase in quirky locations.
The fabric was high-shine and silky with the occasional lace insert, the look was masculine yet sexily feminine, and the colours were vivid. Naturally, his SS13 collection featured plenty of his trademark pieces, being trousers, and it oozed his classic-with-a-twist signature as he toyed with the appearance of the classic female trouser suit. Colorblocking and the borderline patchwork quilt effect were key to his twist as bold trousers met shirts made up of solid color and striped panels. There were also the odd bursts of floral print in patch form too.
Colored paneled dresses hung loose, and the androgynous blazer was updated with sheer material sleeves — all of which was an inspirational take on classical dressing.
