Get Excited for Fashion's Night Out 2012

Rain, shine, or massive lines – there is always a tremendous amount of buzz and excitement surrounding Fashion's Night Out (FNO). FNO’s website listing the 2012 New York happenings was recently unveiled as were the new commemorative t-shirts and totes (proceeds, as in all past years, go to charity).

There are hundreds of events slated to take place on the first eve of Fashion Week—Thursday, September 6—and, as has been the case in past years, the celebrity and designer turnout will be tremendous. You can check out the full calendar of events (over 700!) at the official FNO site. The site makes it very easy to hash out a plan of action by allowing you to choose events based on neighborhood, category (beauty, accessories, menswear, womenswear), and specialty (limited-edition product, refreshment/food, fashion show).

My FNO last year was pretty exciting because I got a sneak peek of Tom Ford’s new beauty collection and also swung by Dylan’s Candy Bar where they had a display of amazing candy shoes!

This year, the events I’m most looking forward to include the one at Balenciaga's Meatpacking boutique where they will be debuting “Pumpkin,” a new capsule collection created by Grace Coddington and Nicolas Ghesquière, that features Coddington’s drawings of her cat Pumpkin modeling iconic Balenciaga looks and the one at the Chanel store on Madison where they’ll be selling a limited-edition collection of matching lip and nail duos (they sell out every year).

Given that this is a major fashion-focused evening, I’m already starting to think about my outfit. I know I’ll be in flats because I can predict there will be a lot of waiting and walking involved (luckily, I just picked up a great pair at Ports 1961!), and then pending the weather holding up, I’ll probably opt to wear a pair of cropped black and gold patterned trousers, a white tee, and some chunky jewelry (I recently splurged on some Fenton pieces that are screaming to be worn). No matter what I end up wearing, there’s no time of year when it’s more important than Fashion Week to look immaculate, which is why it’s imperative to clean your garments with a gentle detergent like Woolite® (lest you be caught with color faded or stained clothes whilst meeting the likes of Rachel Zoe!). Woolite® stands out from other buys because it doesn’t contain any of the four main enzymes used in major brand detergents. Some of these enzymes eat away at stains, while also breaking down the fibers in certain types of fabrics – in other words, they ruin your clothes! Woolite® uses three types of surfactants to remove stains and clean clothes without destroying them, so now you can splurge on FNO having peace of mind knowing your garments will be well taken care of well past the first wear.
