We have come to expect the unexpected when it comes to the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards, and this year was no exception. What proved to be really surprising, though, was how many stars opted for relatively safe looks by MTV standards. Sure, a few celebs took a chance by sporting some unconventional ensembles like over-the-top jumpsuits, but a lot of attendees went for a more glamorous vibe. Floor-length gowns and significant embellishments were favored, while bright colors took a backseat to black, white, and metallic hues.
