Seeing Double: Katy Perry and January Jones are Birds of a Feather in Wes Gordon and More

In the weeks following fashion month, celebrities vie to be the first to take a look from the runway to the red carpet. In the case of some of these celebs, who went for hot-off-the-runway and ended up with hot-off-another-starlet’s-back, being second isn’t so bad. From Gucci’s fan necklines to Wes Gordon’s bird print dresses, check out our latest roundup of celebs in designer double-takes—and weigh in on which stars you think earned the privilege of wearing the look first.

On October 25, Katy Perry wore a Wes Gordon Spring 2013 spaghetti-strap dress and Wes Gordon for Manolo Blahnik lace-up pumps (the same shoes from the runway look) to the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund event. The dress’s swan and feather graphics looked familiar when January Jones wore another version the next day at the Peace Over Violence Humanitarian Awards. Her dress, which featured a more detailed, tropical print with the same feather design, higher neckline, and an assymetrical hem, was styled with Rupert Sanderson sandals.

It was a given that most stars would show up wearing Gucci to the designer’s LACMA Art + Film gala honoring Ed Ruscha and Stanley Kubrick, but Ginnifer Goodwin and Amber Heard probably didn’t expect see another star in a dress with a fan neckline on the same red carpet. Goodwin’s vampy dress from the Fall 2012 collection featured an emerald feather skirt and sheer sleeves, while Heard’s more simple black sheathe focused on the elaborate details of the collar. Both dresses featured fan-cy designs at the throat.

Neither Bella Heathcote nor Astrid Berges-Frisbey was the first to wear Chanel’s denim dress-up—Diane Kruger had that honor back in July. The Resort 2013 dresses are a great excuse to wear jeans to a formal event, and both actresses styled them with that casual element in mind. At the Not Fade Away premiere at the Hamptons Film Fesival, Heathcote wore her high-necked version with chunky sandals and a ponytail, while Berges-Frisbey wore her sleeveless dress to the designer’s Little Black Jacket exhibition launch with punches of poppy red and un-fussy hair.
