Sneakers have always been a necessary evil for us gym bunnies, but I often think when it comes to style, there are only ever two choices: plain Jane blacks and whites or Chris Brown hip-hop clodhoppers. With that in mind, have you ever thought of designing your own? Well now you can thanks to the clever folk at Reebok Canada.
YourReebok is an innovative shoe customization technology that launches this week and will provide Canadians with the opportunity to create and purchase one-of-a-kind shoes. It's already available in the States, but finally we're getting the creative service that boasts over 2.8 million unique designs. I know Nike offers something similar with its ID brand, but as far as I know, they don't ship to Canada.
"At Reebok, we are committed to offering our customers an innovative shopping experience and the latest in performance footwear. We are very excited to bring the YourReebok platform to Canadians," says Stewart Clark, brand leader at Reebok. "We want people to be able to personalize their workout by showing their own colours through their customized Reebok shoes."
To get started, you pick one of Reebok’s hottest silhouettes: the CrossFit Nano 2.0, the CrossFit Oly Lifter, the RealFlex , the ZigTech, and the Pump Omni. Then you can go wild in personalizing up to 23 different areas of the shoe with a choice of 19 colours, four materials, and the option to add text ("Eat My Dust" is bound to be a popular one). The fully customized shoes range from $99.99 to $189.99 depending on the style, materials and optional extras chosen.
I've always wanted to design my kicks so, of course, I had to have a little play this morning, thinking of myself as the next Manolo Blahnik of the fitness world. Clearly that was all in my head because, as you can see, I got a little carried away with colours and ended up with some Frankensneakers:
. . . so yeah. I guess their gaudy cartoonish appearance are somewhat appropriate for my big ol' clown feet, but if you don't quite feel like joining a circus troupe, here's what the pros are able to come up with.
Pretty nice eh? I'm sure you guys could whip up something equally chic, so give it a whirl here and let me know your results in the comments below.
