Lie Sang Bong is one of the most interesting and avant-garde fashion designers of our time. His shows are flights of fancy, the couture designs are dreamy. Born in Korea, he's been taking the world by storm since his first debut collection in Seoul in 1993. Lie Sang Bong's collections have been showcased in museums around the world and he's dressed some of the most beautiful women of our time including Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Juliette Binoche, to name a few. I had the pleasure of photographing some of his Fall 2012 collection and caught up with Lie to talk life, architecture, and the art of fashion.

Cannon: I am a huge fan of your work. What are the influences behind your designs? How do you come up with the concepts for each collection?
Lie Sang Bong: Thank you so much! In my earlier collection, I was inspired by primitive cultures and reinterpreted them through my feelings and understanding of the cultures. Recently, I am more inspired by how humans commune with nature. Design must be like the wind and water. When water does not flow, it is stagnant and stale. Water, regardless of which glass it is poured into, can freely change its shape and form. The same goes for wind. Just like the wind can go wherever it desires, my thoughts, soul, and style desire to travel freely anywhere. Also, I love watching movies, reading books, and going to different art exhibitions and concerts. All of that inspires me to create something new every season.
C: If you had to describe the Lie Sang Bong "look," what would it be?
LSB: Maybe architectural and sculptural shapes. For every collection I try to bring along my signature well-tailored, sophisticated, and architectural silhouettes. Although, I would prefer to say that I do not have any "look" of mine, because I try not to be limited or predictable. I prefer to be known for the confident beauty often found in my collections.
