Why Did It Take So Long for Someone to Sweep Carine Roitfeld Off Her Feet?

It's been nearly two years since Carine Roitfeld resigned (or as some claim, was fired) from her position as Editor-In-Chief of Vogue Paris, and even though she's done her fair share of guest-editing and styling gigs — she even started her own biannual fashion journal, CR Fashion Book — but she's only now been snapped up by one of the major (non-Condé) glossies.

Earlier this morning, Harper's Bazaar released a statement announcing that Roitfeld would be joining the publication as Global Fashion Director, which is quite the imposing title. All it means, though, is that she'll be popping into the Bazaar offices "several" times a year to collaborate on stories and covers with Creative Director Stephen Gan, who also serves as Roitfeld's Fashion Book Design Director and "best friend." So she'll be like a fashion fairy godmother.

This isn't the first time the French editor's name has been tied to Hearst's premier fashion title: in 2006, it was rumored that Roitfeld would leave Paris Vogue to replace Glenda Bailey as Editor-In-Chief of Bazaar, which obviously never happened. But if there's any truth to the rumor, Roitfeld and Bailey can probably look forward to an interesting working relationship.
