Color him obsessed for spring, but Marc Jacobs went from showing a dizzying array of stripes for his namesake show to presenting a dizzying array of checks for his Louis Vuitton collection. This made for a striking lineup, especially given the drama of the show itself, which had models walking in pairs down escalators with LV's signature Damier print and across a white and yellow check runway.
An impressively orchestrated show aside, the collection focused on Sixties style straight lined dresses and separates. Tying into his inspiration, an installation at the Palais Royal from Buren titled “Les Deux Plateaux" which featured 260 columns of three different heights, dresses and skirts came in three lengths (maxi, knee-length, or mini).
Bold head-to-toe checks done in Sixties silhouettes may not be for most, but broken apart, the separates and dresses made for wholly wearable looks. Ditto for the oversized floral print the designer showed. The most impressive Damier checks alternated opaque with sheer squares, which made for a particularly beautiful knee-length white pencil skirt.
As for accessories, shoes were relatively low and pointed and handbags came in a variety of structured iterations, all were finished with LV's signature Damier checks.
