In 3rd grade, it was the Lisa Frank trapper keeper with the unicorn prancing on a rainbow. 7th grade brought baby tees and pleather mini skirts from Contempo Casuals (thank you, Cher Horowitz). High school was all about, well, anything from Abercrombie + Fitch (for the tourists on 5th Ave, that ship has apparently never sailed).
For better or worse, grade school is tucked safely in our pasts but the annual tradition of back-to-school shopping is one just as predictable as fantasy football and fashion week. There's something about shorter days and that subtle chill in the air that stirs the souls of even the most reserved retail consumers. WE. MUST. SHOP.
Unlike my adolescent self, I've learned — oft the hard way — the difference between a flashy fad (Delia's pink plaid bell bottoms, what what?!) and a trend that's here to stay. It’s time to turn up the Black Sabbath and embrace heavy metal. From shiny blazers to silver accessories, metallics are the perfect edgy accent to amp up your existing fall wardrobe. Don't believe me? Check out these key pieces from fashion's brightest stars and what they’re looking forward to most this school year.
Rock on, kids.
