Ever wonder how some of the world's top trainers and nutrition experts stay in shape? We did. Here's a look.
Founder, Tracy Anderson Method
"For my focused workout I do my method 6 days a week for two hours. One hour of my muscular structure design work and one hour of dance aerobics. I know what I want my body to look like and what makes me feel comfortable in my skin and in clothes so I want my workout to accomplish that plus make me healthy and strong in a smart way. I love to work out first thing in the morning and start my day connecting to my body."
Co-Founder, Core Fusion
"I like to take group classes at least 5 times a week and of course a variety of Core Fusion programs since they cover all the essentials of a balanced workout with strength, stretch, cardio, and zen! Core Fusion Barre 2x + Core Fusion Cardio, Core Fusion Sport, or Core Fusion Boot Camp 1x + 2 Exhale yoga classes — Music Yoga Flow or Exhale Vinyasa Flow with pumping music (I like the athletic flow with music yoga)."
Instructor, Physique 57
"In a week, I take anywhere from three to five Physique classes, a yoga class to keep my mind and body flexible, and I have about 12 hours of dance rehearsal with Melinda Ring/Special Projects, which is a contemporary dance company. I am super active and hands on at Physique 57, so I definitely get a lot of physical activity while I am teaching. My husband and I love to explore on the weekends, so we always have something planned whether it be hiking in the Catskills, picnicking and running around in a NYC park or just walking around and getting lost in new neighborhoods."
Founder, Organic Avenue
"As far as my workout regime goes, I do yoga every morning for about an hour either at home or at a local yoga studio. There are so many great ones, but my favorite is Dharma Mittra yoga. I also enjoy an evening jog or bike ride with my son Oliver, using either my bike or the jogging stroller. I always like to take advantage of the energy of the sun while doing my workouts."
Board Certified Dermatologist and Nutritionist, Best-Selling Author
"I enjoy a wide variety of physical exercises. In a typical week I'll lift weights three times for one hour, I'll do Hatha Yoga for 30 minutes three times a weeks, and run three times a week (on non-weight lifting days — 30 minutes for each run). I particularly love running on the beach with my dogs Peanut and Remy."
Instructor, Pure Yoga
Master Instructor, Revolve
"Three runs on non-consecutive days. I know my body and if I try to run back-to-back days my hips and hamstrings get bitchy with me! Two of those runs are endurance (8-9 miles). My third run is speed work (alternate 7-minute mile with a light jog for about 45 minutes). I've been hitting up about 3-5 cycling classes per week. Three times a week I hit the gym for a total body interval workout. The only workout I've gotten that compares to my own are Barry's Bootcamp classes. On my own, I alternate 10 minutes of interval cardio on anything (elliptical, treadmill, stationary bike), with two sets of exercises that include my unique combination of cross fit-esque power ploymetric movement, yoga/pilates-inspired exercises, and relatively lightweight high repetition upper body weight exercises. Finally, if I don't get in at least one yoga class a week, I get injured. Yoga is THE thing I need to do to prevent injuries."
Head of Operations, SLT
"My typical workout week consists of three days of SLT Megaformer classes. I may be biased but i'm completely addicted! I've never felt stronger or better since starting to do SLT; two days of SLT Yoga. If I miss my yoga I feel anxious and stressed. I love that I can leave the class feeling relaxed and calm but at the same time know that I was just challenged and got my ass kicked, and one day a week of running or spinning. I like to really sweat it all out on Saturdays so I can have a guilt-free weekend. I was never a big runner, but am starting to do it more often now. Once I get passed that first mile, it's actually pretty fun!"
Senior Master Instructor, SoulCycle
"Tuesdays I go to my trainer at Body by Simone for one hour of sculpting and cardio. Thursdays I go back to Body by Simone and I'll also do recovery stuff like massage/chiro and maybe a yoga class. Fridays I run 4.2 miles in Central Park and Sundays I usually do a long run (about six miles). If my body is really tired, I will just do a restorative evening yoga class at YogaWorks."
**In addition to the above, Laurie teaches nearly 15 cycling classes — where she is on the bike — a week.
Instructor, Barry's Bootcamp
"A typical week for me starts with a full body workout in the gym including 45 minutes of cardio. Tuesdays after teaching I always look forward to my favorite hot power yoga class that incorporates a modern dance technique followed by a serious spin session (class or on my own...I love to kick my own booty!). Wednesdays I'll go for a short run in the morning before I hit up either Barry's Bootcamp for a chest back and abs beat down or a Chelsea Piers gymnastics class — I swear it makes me find new muscles in my body every week STILL! Thursdays I run six miles and do my hot power yoga class. Fridays are sometimes a day off, but sometimes I got back to Barry's for a full body attack! Saturdays and Sundays are saved for my long runs (eight to ten miles), more spinning, and more Barry's. I feel most alive when I'm sweating my booty off! Work hard to look hard!"
Instructor, Barry's Bootcamp
"Mondays I generally take a Barry’s Bootcamp class after teaching in the morning to kick up my metabolism and energize me for the week. If my schedule permits, I go back to the gym to work on boxing and martial arts drills.
Tuesdays I do cardio for 45 minutes and then focus on my legs. Working out large compound muscle groups such as the legs is a great way to burn calories and get your body to produce growth hormones, which trigger the development of 'fat burning' muscles.
Wednesdays I do Chest, Back, Abs day at Barry's or I'll go to the gym and work on these same muscle groups.
I’ll take off either Thursday or Friday. The day I don’t take off I’ll do cardio mixed in with martial arts and plyometric workouts or take a Barry's class.
I never have the same Saturday workout (Barry’s, martial arts…). I sometimes take this day off as well depending on how packed my week has been and Sundays…I eat...everything...twice...and in large amounts...I burn so much during the week, and keep a clean diet the other six days..so on this day...I get real UNHOLY."
Instructor, Barry's Bootcamp
"Every week I take a minimum of three classes at Barry's and do three 45 minute to 1 hour workouts on my own. At the moment my personal workouts consist of a mixture of compound movements starting off with one warm up set and ending with a max set."
Instructor, Barry's Bootcamp
"What's great about working at Barry's Bootcamp is that it's literally the best workout in the world – one hour sweating next to friends and listening to awesome music all while burning 800+ calories, HELLO! Monday-Friday I lift heavy weights at my gym and isolate specific body parts – the way we do at Barry’s. In addition to the lifting, I’ll take a Barry’s class Tuesdays and Thursdays – occasionally on Mondays as well. Saturday is usually my resting day and Sunday I tend to venture out – i.e. boxing, swimming, taking a group fitness class around the city....anything that keeps me moving!"
