We Tried It: Olay Smooth Finish Facial Hair Removal Duo

Truth: the hair above my upper lip has always bothered me — a lot. Since the texture of the hair is a little on the thicker side, I can feel it every time my hand brushes against that part of my face. It's just this really pesky distraction that never goes away. I've tried other hair removal creams before, but never to great effect. At the very best, they've caused irritation; in the worst cases, they've even peeled off a layer of skin along with the offending patch of hair.

Even though I'd heard good things, I was still really skeptical when I tried the Olay Smooth Finish Facial Hair Removal Duo kit for Medium to Coarse Hair. I did like that it had a formula specifically developed to target thicker hair, because I think mine might be on the more stubborn side, and it typically doesn't budge for some of the lighter creams.

Olay's Hair Removal kit is made up of a product duo, so applying is a two-step process. Because Olay's system anticipates the problem of irritation, which plagues most hair removers, the first step is applying the Skin Guarding Balm. Made up of a blend of wax, glossamer, and emollients, this pre-treatment protects skin from painful irritation by creating a very thin layer between the hair remover and your face.

As for the actual hair remover? Unlike most, this one didn't have any particular odor and used with the Skin Guarding Balm, I suffered no irritation. My skin can sometimes break out with tiny little bumps after using products like this, but with Olay's Hair Removal Duo, the hair slid right out and the skin above my upper lip was simply (for once!) smooth and totally texture-free.
