At this point in the winter ( for the love of God, will it ever end????), your repertoire of hat-friendly hairstyle ideas has probably gotten a bit stale. Or maybe your repertoire consists of just "ponytail" (guilty). That's why I want to share a few new braids we've seen on the fall 2014 Fashion Week runways-while you may not see a cute shoe again until spring, these hairstyles can be worn right away. AND stand up to that hat!
1. The half-back fishtail braid, seen at Etro.
If you haven't worn your hair half-back lately, this is such a chic new way to revisit the concept. Watch the video at the end of this post for a seriously easy/quick tutorial on how to do a fishtail braid!
2. Pigtails with a headband, seen at Marc by Marc Jacobs.
I know, grown-up pigtails can be a dodgy proposition, but it's winter-what better time to play around with something slightly risky, since you have your hat on half the time anyway? I love how adding a black headband (plus that dark eyeliner!) made the Marc by Marc models suddenly look edgy and cool. Note how the hair's gently parted in the middle, to keep the hairline from looking harsh.
3. A loose and undone low braid, seen at Pucci.
Hair worn down in the winter can be so flat, but this is an easy fix; braid just the ends for an undone, bohemian kind of vibe. Pretty, right? Which of these fall 2014 Fashion Week braid hairstyle ideas is your favorite? Have any of you been wearing braids this winter, and if so, what type? Photos: Mark Leibowitz
